Why do people buy itouch

I also wish it had Touch ID or Face ID, since I'm just not used to pressing the home button and then having to enter in a 4-digit password to unlock a device any more. And, for a device so focused on music, I wish it had stereo speakers instead of the single down-firing one.

The front-facing camera is just one megapixel, which is pretty much laughably bad on paper. I took a selfie with my editor outside a restaurant and thought it was fine, though blurry due to the lack of any optical image stabilization.

Again, your kids might like it, but adults might prefer something better with portrait mode, like you'd get on an iPhone XS Max. The 8-megapixel camera on the back is just fine, and now supports augmented reality so you can use apps that let you drop digital objects into the real world.

Kids might like Angry Birds AR, which lets you slingshot birds at bad guys on your desk, for example. The screen is just OK. You can see the pixels, so it's not as sharp as Apple's screens on newer iPhones, or nearly as colorful. Finally, while I don't really want to pay for another data plan, it would be pretty cool to have the option to carry this anywhere and get internet access even when Wi-Fi isn't available, like you might with an LTE iPad.

But it also lacks phone support, and you'll still need an iPhone if you want to place calls. That means you'll be carrying two devices to access your apps, place calls, and listen to music. So, if you're in the market for a new music player and don't need or want a phone, the iPod Touch seems like a good option. But for everyone else--which is most folks--the iPod Touch is a nonstarter.

Top Stories. Top Videos. Getty Images. Look, it's not easy to find an affordable Apple device. The tiny iPod was more manageable to bring along on a workout or carry on the train than my iPhone XS Max. Other times I had to use Spotify Premium to download songs before a journey through a Wi-Fi-free zone.

On both your computer and mobile device, Apple Music will be your one-stop shop for songs. Unless you prefer Spotify, which also works. Maybe it's because of the smaller screen, which better focuses my attention, but I rarely used it when I was bored to aimlessly scroll on Instagram or watch YouTube videos.

In fact, when I used the iPod at home my activities were more purposeful instead of the distracted meandering I normally do on my iPhone. However, I can't guarantee that substituting an iPod Touch for your iPhone will make you less obsessed with being on your phone. Despite its niche target audience, the iPod Touch is still a solid device, but I'd recommend really thinking about how you'd use it before you buy one.
